OK, so that’s almost it for 2014. Bring on 2015, but before we do lets take a look at what High Score considers the top five games for 2014. We’ll start at five and work down to game of the year.
5. In at number five is the totally awesome and ridiculously off the wall open world third person shooter and zombie kill fest game, Sunset Overdrive. Sunset Overdrive delivers you some of the funniest gags in a long time and is quite comfortable making fun of itself and other game styles while never taking itself seriously. If you haven’t yet played Sunset Overdrive, then you should, the character creation and customisation is so worth it. $4000 scarf just because it looks cool? Why not, even if it does nothing else, at least I looked stylish.
4. Thief – No, the reboot, not the old one. Yes it had a few technical flaws but overall, being able to achieve my target goals however I wanted totally makes up for the few flaws it has. As reboots go, it also looks very gorgeous on PS4. You can read our review here.
3. Coming in at the number three position is Lifeless Planet. Sure, it’s a short game but the game play and story is so engrossing, along with really excellent visuals that you are left thinking long afterwards about the whole experience. Lifeless Planet still pops in to my thoughts at least once a week. I really hope they come out with a continuation of the story. You can read our review here.
2. Number two brings us, yup, Dragon Age Inquisition. Why? This game is so in-depth, so story driven, so… Well, it’s the Dragon Age game we’ve been waiting for since Origins and it really shows with at least one hundred hours of gameplay right out of the box. Bring on Mass Effect Four Bioware, because if you’re delivering this level of quality to us now then we can expect even more amazing adventures in ME4. Dragon Age Inquisition is a must play through before the holidays are over. (review soon, we promise)
And finally, what game could top all of these? What left such an impression on High Score that we hope there are more like it? That would be…
